Our Story
AsterionDB was founded with a vision to solve the fundamental security and performance challenges that plague traditional database architectures.
Traditional databases separate computing from storage, requiring data to be constantly moved through file systems. This architecture creates inherent security vulnerabilities and performance bottlenecks that become increasingly problematic as data volumes grow.
Our founders recognized that by converging computing and storage within the database itself, we could eliminate these fundamental weaknesses. This insight led to the development of AsterionDB's revolutionary architecture, which has been briefed to organizations including DISA and the U.S. Department of the Navy.
Today, AsterionDB serves organizations across healthcare, government, finance, and legal sectors, providing them with the security, performance, and capabilities they need to handle their most sensitive and critical data.

Steve Guilford
President, Founder
Mr. Guilford has over 38 years of experience working in the software industry. He is fluent in all phases of software design and implementation. His Oracle expertise dates back to 1984. His professional specialty can best be summed up as being a system integrator and a programmer's programmer. He has written and published many tools and application systems that are targeted for use by mid-level programmers.

These patented technologies are employed in the design and implementation of AsterionDB, which manages unstructured data and provides a migration path away from the legacy hierarchical file-system. AsterionDB traces its history back over 30 years.
Tim Robertson
V.P. Technology
Tim brings close to 40 years of computing experience, starting from the era of 4KB memory systems running on punched cards and tape. He spent a decade in minicomputer software consulting in the Los Angeles and San Diego areas, helping businesses transition off mainframes.
After porting the Oracle Product set to an obscure minicomputer, Tim joined Oracle Corporation where he spent 29 years in various roles including Government, Higher Education, and Healthcare solutions—from Release Management to Software Architecture. He played a key role in consolidating demonstration instances and pioneering architecture that predated modern cloud infrastructures, ultimately creating automated VM provisioning and management systems.
Currently collaborating with AsterionDB, Tim assists with refactoring and packaging the flagship product toward a micro-services model. His expertise spans Oracle technology, Cloud deployments, container-based virtualization, and IoT projects with Arduino and Raspberry Pi.
Paul Lesniewski
V.P. Software Development
Mr. Lesniewski has over 35 years of software development experience. His talents have been sought out by Fortune 1000 Companies both nationally and internationally.
Mr. Lesniewski is part of the maintenance team for SquirrelMail – a popular Open Source email server solution.
Rick Kahn
V.P. Business Development
Rick Kahn has had over 35 years of sales, sales management, and business development experience, primarily focused on solution sales to Sr. Execs within the IT, Healthcare, and Aerospace/Public Sector industry segments.
After about 20 years of successfully working in senior professional corporate sales and sales management roles at DEC/HP, Oracle, KPMG, and BO/SAP, Rick began to apply his sales creativity and "outside the box" problem solving skills to help strategically positioned smaller start-ups and SMEs, particularly those that had compelling IT and HC solutions and stories that needed to be shared and promoted.
Rick has recently joined AsterionDB to help identify and work with targeted F500 "early adopters," obtain product feedback, and validate market acceptance/viability. He also works to identify large, select IT/Business Consulting Firms, Integrators, and Channel/Distribution Resellers, bringing years of experience to support the company's GTM goals and objectives.

Upon retiring from the Pentagon, Col. Morgan has worked in the defense and higher education sector assisting large and small organizations alike. He is TS active / SCI Eligible.
